I decided to share the image above because it represents something I am deeply passionate about. I feel incredibly fortunate to witness the entire process it depicts. Creating win-win-win scenarios that benefit many is something I truly love and am honored to be a part of.
However, I’ve come to the difficult realization that this passion and drive can sometimes lead us down the wrong path. One area I need to work on is the ability to stop and take a pause. While I have always excelled at accomplishing tasks and staying active, slowing down and taking a break has been a challenge for me. I know that those who know me well would agree.
Pausing is exactly what Service in Unity is doing. We’ve found a small window of opportunity to pause all operations. For the remainder of December and the beginning of January, we will take this time to assess our model. With our limited resources, it’s nearly impossible to operate and dedicate adequate time to evaluating our successes.
Service in Unity began operations early this year as a pilot program. In our ten months of operation, we’ve experienced great successes and faced significant challenges. Overall, we’ve learned a lot.
I care deeply about our local nonprofits, and this is the environment I choose to operate in. With this in mind, I continued my education this past semester. As I write this, I have only two more classes to complete before earning my business degree with a focus on nonprofit organizations. This last semester I completed courses in Nonprofit Management and Nonprofit Marketing — a wonderful experience to directly apply what I was learning to Service in Unity. I was even fortunate enough to create an entire marketing plan for Service in Unity as my final project.
With all of this in mind, Service in Unity is taking a short pause to incorporate this new knowledge and the lessons learned from operating. While I can’t reveal what we have in store, I can assure you that you will love it. To say I am excited to get to work is an understatement. I am confident that Service in Unity will emerge from this pause stronger, allowing us to better serve those we are so passionate about.
