Privacy Policy

Service in Unity, Inc. ("Service in Unity," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Ithaca, New York. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.
We serve people in recovery and the organizations that support them. We treat the information people share with us with care, and we never require you to disclose the nature of your recovery to use this website.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-up. When you subscribe, we collect your first name, last name, company or organization (optional), and email address so we can send updates and follow up with you.
- Contact form. When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and anything you choose to write in your message.
- Donations. When you donate, our payment processor collects the information needed to process your gift. See our separate Donor Privacy Policy for details.
- Account sign-in. If you sign in to a member area (for example, a donor dashboard), you may authenticate using Apple or Google, or an account managed through our identity provider. We receive basic profile information such as your name and email address to identify your account.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data. Like most websites, we automatically collect limited technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. See our Cookie Policy for how cookies and similar technologies are used.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send newsletters and updates you have asked to receive;
- Respond to your questions and messages;
- Process and acknowledge donations;
- Operate, secure, and improve the website;
- Keep records required for a nonprofit, including tax and accounting records; and
- Comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make decisions about anyone's eligibility for services.
How we share information
We share personal information only as needed to run our programs and this website, and only with:
- Service providers. Companies that host our site and provide email, payment processing, and content tools, acting on our behalf. These currently include Microsoft (hosting and email), Wix (newsletter and website services), and GiveButter (donation processing).
- Legal and safety. Authorities or others when required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of people and the public.
Text Messaging (SMS)
If you provide your mobile number and consent, Service in Unity staff may send you one-to-one text messages (e.g., scheduling and follow-ups). Message and data rates may apply and message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help at any time. We do not sell or share your mobile number or SMS opt-in information with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No website or internet transmission is ever completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law and sound nonprofit recordkeeping. You can ask us to remove information we are not required to keep.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
- Access and correction. You may ask us to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you.
- Cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings — see our Cookie Policy.

Children's privacy
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data security breaches
As a New York organization, we follow applicable state law, including New York's data breach notification requirements, and will notify affected individuals as required if a breach affecting their private information occurs.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above and post the new version here.
